Overview
This Privacy Policy describes how the Сокращатель Chrome extension ("the Extension"), developed by Pavel Barakaev, handles your information.
Сокращатель is a URL shortener tool. Its sole purpose is to shorten the URL of your current browser tab using the clck.ru API, maintain a local history of your last 10 shortened links, and let you generate customizable QR codes from those links.
Data We Collect
The Extension stores the following data locally on your device only, using the Chrome Storage API:
- Shortened link history — up to 10 pairs of original URL and its shortened version, stored so you can access them across popup sessions.
- QR code design presets — your saved color schemes and optional logo images for generating QR codes.
This data never leaves your device and is never transmitted to us or any third party, with the sole exception described in the Third-Party Services section below.
Data We Do Not Collect
The Extension does not collect, transmit, or store:
- Personal identification information (name, email, account details)
- Browsing history or any tab data beyond the single URL you explicitly choose to shorten
- Analytics, telemetry, or usage statistics
- IP addresses or device identifiers
- Cookies or tracking data of any kind
- QR code images — these are generated locally in your browser and never uploaded
Permissions Explained
The Extension requests the following Chrome permissions, each with a specific, minimal purpose:
Third-Party Services
When you click "Shorten URL", the URL of your current tab is sent to
clck.ru (operated by Yandex LLC) via their public API
(https://clck.ru/--?url=…).
This is the only network request the Extension makes. The handling of that URL by clck.ru is governed by Yandex's own privacy policy, which you can review at yandex.com/legal/privacy.
Data Storage & Retention
All data (link history and QR presets) is stored locally on your device using
chrome.storage.local.
It is never transmitted to our servers because we operate no servers.
You can delete all stored data at any time by:
- Clicking "Clear" in the link history section of the Extension popup
- Removing all presets from the Settings screen
- Uninstalling the Extension, which removes all associated local data
Children's Privacy
The Extension does not knowingly collect any information from children under the age of 13, nor is it directed at children. It contains no advertising and requires no account or personal information to function.
Changes to This Policy
If this Privacy Policy is updated, the new version will be published at barakaev.ru/privacy7 with a revised effective date. Continued use of the Extension after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
Given the Extension's minimal data footprint, significant changes to this policy are unlikely.
