Overview

Кавычки-ёлочки ("the Extension") is a Chrome browser extension that converts straight quotation marks ("...") into Russian typographic guillemets («...»). It operates entirely within the user's browser and does not communicate with any external server.

          The Extension does not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal data or user content whatsoever.
        

Data We Collect

We collect no data. Specifically:

The Extension does not collect browsing history, page content, text entered by the user, personally identifiable information, usage statistics or analytics, crash reports, or any other information.

All text processing (quote conversion) happens locally in your browser. No text you type or paste is ever sent anywhere.

Local Storage

The Extension saves one preference to your browser's local storage:

 skipInches (boolean, default: true) — whether to preserve quotation marks that follow a digit, e.g. 10". This value never leaves your device.
        

This preference is stored using chrome.storage.local, which is local to your browser profile and is never synced to any server or shared with any third party.

Permissions Explained

The Extension requests the following Chrome permissions, each for a specific and limited purpose:

storage

Saves the single user preference (skip inches on/off) locally in the browser. No data leaves the device.

contextMenus

Adds one item to the right-click menu on editable fields, enabling in-place quote replacement without opening the popup.

activeTab

Allows the background service worker to send a message to the currently active tab when the context menu item is clicked. No tab content is read or transmitted.

scripting

Used as a fallback to inject the content script into tabs that were already open when the Extension was installed. Applied only on demand when the context menu is triggered.

host access
<all_urls>

Required so the context menu item and content scripts can operate on any website. The Extension reads and modifies only the specific editable field the user explicitly right-clicked. No page data is collected or transmitted.

Third-Party Services

The Extension does not use any third-party services, analytics platforms, advertising networks, or remote APIs. It makes no network requests of any kind.

Children's Privacy

The Extension does not collect any data from any user, including children under the age of 13. It is compliant with COPPA by virtue of collecting no personal information whatsoever.

Changes to This Policy

If this Privacy Policy is updated, the new version will be published at this URL and the effective date at the top of the page will be revised. Continued use of the Extension after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
